Should I send money or gifts to a lady?
Sending flowers, chocolates, food baskets, etc. are okay if sent through an established dating website.Small amounts of money to help the lady pay for broadband internet connectivity or to produce interesting photos/videos is okay. But, do not send large amounts of money for any purpose.
Here are a few tips on avoiding dating fraud.
Beware if:
-The lady says she is in love with you before meeting you in person.
-The lady does not answer your questions or address specific points of your email(s).
- The lady hints at financial hardships or directly asks for money or gifts. She may tell you she has a sick relative and complain about medical expenses. One of the biggest scams is when the lady proposes that she meet you in the States but is short of money for her ticket and Visa. 99% of the time this is a scam. Only 1 in 100 women from the former USSR, Philippines and China can get a tourist visa to the U.S. or western European countries.
- If a lady asks you for travel money to meet you. Do not send money to a lady for this purpose. You could, however, purchase her airline ticket directly from the airline allowing her to collect the ticket from that airline office in her country (e-ticket or boarding use only ticket). You own the tickets, therefore she cannot get a refund or have it rewritten. She can only use it as is.
- If the lady offers to provide apartment rental, car and driver and interpreter services for a fee. This would indicate she is a business lady and not seeking to meet someone.
The bottom line is NEVER send big money to anyone you have not yet met in person. It is totally out of character for a normal Asian/Russian woman to ask someone, other than a family member or a very close friend, for gifts or money.
